A globe valve with bellow seal replaces the usual packed gland as the main stem seal with a multi-ply stainless steel bellows. One end of the bellows is welded to the stem and the other to the bonnet, so the stem can rise and fall while the process fluid stays completely sealed inside. A conventional gland sits above as a back-up. This removes the steady gland weeping, energy loss and maintenance that packed valves show on hot steam and thermal oil lines.
