Plated steel crowfoots rust quickly once the plating is scratched, especially near the sea or on water and wet-air lines. Brass resists this corrosion, keeps the lugs and seal face smooth for longer and is a better choice where steel-on-steel sparking is a concern. The barbed stem fits into the hose and is secured with a clamp or ferrule; the claw head has holes for a safety pin.
