A forged 90 degree elbow with a male NPT thread on one end and a female NPT thread on the other. It screws straight into a fitting or valve port, removing the nipple and one joint from a tight screwed turn.

A street elbow, sometimes called a service elbow, has one male and one female end. Screwing its male end directly into a tee, valve or equipment port gives a 90 degree turn in less space than a standard elbow and nipple, and with one fewer threaded joint. ASME B16.11 covers forged street elbows in 90° and 45° patterns, and forged versions are much stronger than the malleable iron street elbows used in low pressure plumbing.
