A nylon insert lock nut has a nylon collar at the top that the bolt thread deforms as it passes through. The resulting friction, known as prevailing torque, keeps the nut from backing off under vibration. ISO 7040 is the regular height pattern and DIN 985 the lower profile type. Square washers to DIN 436 are large, thick plates for timber construction, while square taper washers to DIN 434 and DIN 435 correct the slope on channel and I-beam flanges.
