A spring washer to DIN 127 B is a hardened split ring twisted into a slight helix. Fitted under a nut, it flattens as the joint is tightened and keeps some tension on the fastener. It remains a popular low-cost washer on electrical terminals and light assemblies, although for critical, high-vibration joints a lock nut or wedge-locking washer is more reliable. A coupling nut to DIN 6334 is a hexagon nut three times the thread diameter long, used to join threaded rods end to end.
