A knife gate valve uses a sharp-edged stainless steel gate to cut through thick media and seal across the bore. Its slim wafer or lug body handles slurries, sludge, powders and wastewater that would clog a standard gate valve.

A knife gate valve isolates by driving a thin, bevelled stainless steel gate straight across the pipe bore. The sharp lower edge shears through fibres, solids and settled slurry, and the gate seats against a resilient or metal seal in the body. Because there is no cavity at the bottom of the body for solids to pack into, the valve keeps closing reliably on media that would jam a wedge gate valve. The body is very short, similar to a wafer butterfly valve.
