A brass swing check valve stops reverse flow using a hinged disc that lifts with forward flow and falls back onto its seat when flow stops. Its straight-through body keeps head loss low on water and pump lines.

A brass swing check valve, often called a non-return valve or NRV, allows flow in one direction only. A hinged disc inside the body swings open under forward pressure and closes against the seat by gravity and back pressure when flow reverses. Because the disc swings almost clear of the flow path, head loss is lower than with a spring check, making it a good fit on gravity lines and low-head pumps.
