The Type A adapter has a machined male groove on one end and a female thread on the other. It is usually screwed onto a pipe nipple, valve spigot or pump discharge so that a hose fitted with a coupler can be clipped on. Having no moving parts or gasket, it is the low-maintenance half of the joint and is best left on fixed equipment.
