In UK and Gulf usage a set screw is a hexagon head screw threaded for its full length, to ISO 4017 or DIN 933. Unlike a part-threaded bolt it can be screwed into tapped holes of any depth and is the general-purpose choice for brackets, machinery and steelwork. A hex flange bolt to EN 1665 (DIN 6921 style) has an integral washer flange, often serrated, that spreads clamping load and grips the surface so the joint resists vibration.
