The DC dust cap is a blank female coupler that locks over a male camlock adapter. It keeps dirt and water out, stops drips from tank outlets and protects the adapter lip when the line is not in use.

A Type DC is built like a coupler with a solid end: it has two cam arms and a gasket, but no through bore. Closing the arms over a male adapter seals the outlet, which makes the cap useful as a positive closure on tanker outlets and pump ports, not just a dirt cover. Many caps have a lug for a retaining chain so the cap stays with the outlet.
