The crowfoot hose end is the hose half of a universal air coupling: a two-lug claw head on a barbed hose stem. Two heads lock with a quarter turn, so compressor hoses and air tools connect without spanners.

Crowfoot couplings, also called universal or Chicago couplings, use two hooked lugs. Two identical heads face each other, engage and twist a quarter turn, compressing a rubber seal between them. Because both halves are the same, there is no male or female side. The hose end version carries a barbed stem that is pushed into the hose and clamped, and the lugs have holes for a safety pin.
