A mechanical tee clamps around a pipe over a hole drilled in the wall, giving a branch outlet without cutting the main or fitting a full tee. It is the fastest way to add sprinkler drops and small branches.

A mechanical tee is a two-piece housing that bolts around the run pipe. The upper half carries the outlet and a locating collar that drops into a hole cut in the pipe wall with a hole saw, keeping the tee positioned, while an EPDM gasket around the hole seals the joint. No groove is needed at the branch point, so outlets can be added mid-length on existing pipe.
