A G.I. reducing nipple has a larger taper male thread on one end, a smaller one on the other, and a hexagon between them for spanner tightening. It is the male-to-male counterpart of a reducing socket and is used where two female ports of different sizes must be joined directly, for example a 1 inch tee outlet to a 3/4 inch valve. Using one piece instead of a nipple plus bush saves a joint and length.
