A threaded 45° elbow lets a screwed line change direction by half a right angle. Fitters often combine two 45s with a short nipple to step a line sideways, which keeps hydraulic and air lines tidy on skids and plant walls. Because a threaded joint is made by rotating each part, careful planning of the make-up sequence matters on offsets, and unions are often placed nearby to allow final alignment.
