A forged threaded 90° elbow is a solid B16.11 forging with female taper threads cut to ASME B1.20.1 NPT. The joint seals on the thread flanks with PTFE tape or a suitable compound, so no welding is needed. B16.11 rates threaded fittings in classes 2000, 3000 and 6000; class 2000 is matched to Schedule 80 pipe and class 3000 to Schedule 160. Heavier classes carry a longer centre-to-end dimension, as the table shows.
