A weldolet is a forged branch outlet with a base contoured to the header OD and a bevelled outlet matching the branch pipe. It is welded to the header over a cut hole and the branch pipe is butt welded to its top. MSS SP-97 requires the fitting itself to replace the metal removed from the header, so a correctly specified weldolet needs no extra pad. Weldolets are lighter, cheaper and quicker to install than a reducing tee once the header exceeds about 2 inch.
